Edible Fruit Basket and Camera White Balance

Told my hubby for the past 7 years of marriage to rarely buy me flowers.  I know what you’re thinking, you can call me crazy but honestly, getting flowers once a month is too pricey. Today, since it’s my birthday hubby did something a little different.  This time hubby didn’t get me fresh flowers, instead I received an edible flower fruit basket.  It’s my first fruit basket ever and I love it!  It’s still a flower style but at the same time I can eat it too!  Thank you Love for making my birthday special.

On a side note, I learned about portrait photography from so many amazing professional photographers and thought this is a good time to start sharing my knowledge with the newbies out there. Photography is a never ending learning experience, so I’m always learning. I have friends who just purchased their new and VERY expensive DSLR camera and assumed great pictures will come out of it. Many of them ended up putting the camera in the closet and give up. They scratched their heads wondering why the pictures don’t turn out like the professionals? It doesn’t take a day to get good pictures, it takes so many years of experience. I’m just going to demo the basic using White Balance. It’s very simple and easy technique that I use all the time without pulling out the white balance card.

When I’m not in a controlled environment using Auto White Balance (AWB) is my first top priority. The camera reads the subject’s lighting and provides almost accurate white balance temperature. For my camera it’s seems to be on a cooler temperature. A good time to be in AWB mode is shooting a fast pace wedding. In a controlled environment such as portraits session having some time to set it is always great. The reason is I’m not a big fan of using photoshop on all my pictures. Shooting in custom white balance mode saves editing time. When I shoot during the day in the shade I like to use the “cloud shade icon”. It gives the subject a warmer tone. If I’m using a flash I’ll but the white balance to “flash” icon mode. See, it’s really that simple! Try it out and you will see the difference!
